Local sporting groups across Wrexham are being encouraged to bid for a share of funding which could help with everything from equipment to training.

Another round of applications for Community Chest funding from Sports Wales is open, with the closing date on Wednesday 17th January.

There are loads of sporting groups in Wrexham, offering the chance to take part in sports such as football, rugby, boxing, athletics, tennis and many more.

The Community Chest funding programme has already seen more than £50,000 given to groups since April last year.

Details released by Wrexham Council also state that “if your group specifically promotes sports for women or girls, disabled participants or social inclusion, you could be able to access even more money”.

Cllr Paul Rogers, Lead Member for Youth and Anti-Poverty, said: “There are a lot of good sports and athletics groups out there which do excellent work in their community.

“They’re not just helping people to get fit and stay fit – they’re also helping to bring people together, give them a chance to make new friends and socialise.

“I’d encourage any sports groups who think they could benefit from grant support to get in touch and take advantage of this opportunity.”
