Wrexham Shops Prepare For ‘Black Friday’ Deals
Shops across Wrexham are preparing for what has become one of the biggest shopping days of the year, with Black Friday quickly approaching.
Across the town centre there are a number of shops taking part in ‘Black Friday’ – including B&M Bargains, Store Twenty One, Bon Marche and even Chatwin’s have an offer on Christmas puddings and cakes! Just outside the town centre Tesco will also be offering Black Friday deals, with the supermarket offering discounts on some products from 5am.
Some deals appear to have already begun with some retailers offering ‘Back Friday’ offers throughout the week and across the weekend – others however are holding off until the ‘big day’ itself.
Shops on Eagles Meadow are also participating in the event – with big name retailers such as Debenhams, The Entertainer and F Hinds Jewellers offering discounts throughout the day. However in some cases, the final decision on what prices will be cut has yet to be formally announced!
The concept behind Black Friday began in America in the early 2000s and takes place on the fourth Thursday of November. Over the past few years the event has become known as the start of the Christmas season, with many big retailers – such as Walmart / Asda and Amazon launching big discount sales.
Over the past few year’s the event has began to generate attention in the UK – with many retailers opening throughout the night and offering discounted products.
One big retailer who will not be taking part in this year’s Black Friday is ASDA, who announced earlier this month that they were scrapping their participation in the annual event.
Speaking earlier this month, Asda Chief Executive Clarke saying: “Over the last two years we’ve developed an organised, well-executed plan, but this year customers have told us loud and clear that they don’t want to be held hostage to a day or two of sales.
“With an ever-changing retail landscape, now more than ever we must listen carefully to exactly what our shoppers want and be primed and ready to act the minute their needs change.
“When it comes to putting customers first, Asda has always led the way, which is why we’re just as confident in our decision to step away from Black Friday as we were in introducing it to the UK.”
Last year’s Black Friday was likened to a ‘war zone‘ in some scenarios – with queues of hundreds seen both inside and outside shops across the town centre.
