A Wrexham school has received the highest accolade available during a recent inspection by Estyn.

Borras Park Infant School Early Education has been deemed as ‘excellent’ following a recent inspection by Estyn, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate for Education and Training in Wales.

The facility is located in Borras Park Infant School and at the time of the inspection, there were 20 children aged three in attendance.

The inspection, which took place in January 2015 focuses on three central questions; how good are a school’s outcomes, how good is provision and how good are the leadership and management. A school then receives a judgement of Excellent, Good, Adequate and Unsatisfactory.

In this instance the school has been judged as Excellent by Estyn.

The facility has been judged as Excellent due to the: Safe and vibrant learning environment where children settle in well and play co-operatively, nearly all children’s behaviour is exemplary, the working relationship between children and adults is warm and caring and nearly all children make very good progress during their time in the setting.

The prospects for improvement are also listed as Excellent due to the good teamwork and positive learning environment in the facility.

Estyn goes onto comment on their ‘main findings’ during the inspection, with the facility’s standards, well-being, learning experiences, leadership, partnership working and resource management all being deemed as ‘Excellent’.

Speaking about the facility’s standards, Estyn notes: “Nearly all children make very good progress, and a few children make exceptional progress, from their starting points across nearly all areas of learning. Most children develop a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills that prepares them well for the next step in their education.”

The report continues onto comment on the well-being of the children, adding: “Nearly all children are enthusiastic and show a very positive attitude towards their learning. With very few exceptions, children have high levels of engagement and are confident when making choices as they move between adult-focused and child led learning tasks, demonstrating high standards of independence.

“Most children are happy to discuss their work with each other, adults and visitors and take an active role in their learning. Most children remain busy and on task for appropriate periods of time.”

The school was also judged on teaching, care, support and guidance; the learning environment and improving quality – all of which were deemed as ‘Good’.

Commenting on the teaching at the school, Estyn notes: “The appropriate pace of sessions means that children always have something new and exciting to engage their interest and motivate them to learn. Clear daily routines and effective teamwork provide a consistency of approach and enable children to know what to expect and to feel happy and safe.”
