Wrexham Residents Urged to Switch Off Their Lights in Support of Earth Hour
Residents and businesses across Wrexham are being asked to come together and turn their lights off for one hour this weekend to show their support for Earth Hour.
The annual event, which takes place at 8:30pm on Saturday 25th March, sees millions of people across the world switch their lights off and show their commitment to taking action to tackle climate change.
Wrexham Council has once again announced its support for Earth Hour and is encouraging residents, organisations and businesses in Wrexham are asked to turn off their lights for one hour and join forces with landmarks across the globe such as the Senedd in Cardiff and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Around half a million people in Wales participate in Earth Hour every year, and by taking part, they’re showing that they want to see action being taken to tackle climate change now.
Dr Helen Paterson, Chief Executive of Wrexham Council, said: “Wrexham is very proud to support WWF’s Earth Hour once again this year. Local authorities likes ours have a big role to play in tackling climate change, so we’re encouraging all our staff and as many residents as possible to turn off their lights for one hour on 25 March.”
Anne Meikle, Head of WWF Cymru, added: “We’re delighted that Wrexham Council is supporting WWF’s Earth Hour again this year. Climate change will have a massive effect on people’s lives here in Wales and around the world. So it’s great that Wales’ local authorities are throwing their weight behind the call for action to tackle it.
“Everyone—from individuals and community groups, to schools and businesses—can sign up to Earth Hour by visiting www.wwf.org.uk/earthhourwales and then switching off their lights at 8.30pm on Saturday 25 March 2017.”
