A long-running organisation which has provided training and learning opportunities to thousands of people in Wrexham is to close its doors for the final time at the end of the month.

Itec, which is based on the Whitegate Industrial Estate, will cease its services on December 31st after a Wrexham Council Executive Board decision was made to close the facility.

The itec team provide service and expertise in work based learning in Wrexham, with the centre being established in 1983 as a ‘flagship’ non-profit making organisation with the prime purpose of supporting the economic infrastructure of the area.

However in September 2018 Wrexham.com reported that a decision had been made in part two – away from the press and public – to close itec.

The full public information on what the report contained, what the debate entailed and the reasoning for the closure outcome is displayed below. There is no further public information.

A statement posted by the organisation online last week, reads: “Itec opened in the mid 80s with the aim of helping boost training and learning opportunities in the Wrexham area.

“Since then it has helped thousands of local people to achieve qualifications that have enabled them to progress in their careers, get back into employment or start on a new path with an apprenticeship.

“Itec has been fortunate to have had a staff team who have been committed to supporting learners to realise their potential, whatever course they may be doing.

“Itec would like to thank every single learner who has walked through its doors and staff members who have worked to help learners across the years.

“The closure of itec does not mean there are no longer opportunities for learners. There are a number of providers who will continue to provide an extensive learning offer across Wrexham.

“If you require any further information about these, please telephone itec on 01978 367100 any time up to the 21st December 2018.”
