Wrexham Football Club are playing Braintree on Saturday at the Racecourse, with the home game being deemed a celebration event to mark the recent 99 year lease being agreed for the ground.

The club recently announced they are signing a 99 year lease for the Racecourse, and launching a ‘My Racecourse‘ brand to get the local community involved in using the range of facilities for match day and non match day purposes.

The Club say, “On Saturday it is our final home game of the regulation season and our My Racecourse game. We are asking supporters to come out and support the game to give us a good start on closing the financial gap introduced by our purchase of a 99 year on the Racecourse ground. Any income above our budgeted figure for this game will count towards our £200k target.”

The game will celebrate some great moments in the history of Wrexham AFC at the Racecourse Ground with a parade of former players.

For the first time in front of our supporters Mickey Thomas will be recreating the goal versus Arsenal on the pitch at half time, with a special souvenir programme in the style of the original Arsenal programme.

Encouraging fans to bring cameras to record their new memories, they added: “We will have music from the different Racecourse eras and Wrex the Dragon & Rockin Robin will be on hand to welcome supporters young and old as you enter the Ground”

“In addition we are encouraging fans to recreate the chant of ‘we shall not be moved’ to celebrate that the Racecourse is back under our control.”

Richard Knew ( Knew Productions ) an avid Wrexham fan and a local professional film maker has created a work of video art from the freekick. The free kick video has been slowed down frame by frame to stretch it to nearly three minutes with all the possible angles of the goal – plus a rousing soundtrack.

Here is the wonderful video he has created:

Rich has previously helped out getting ‘lost’ videos online – for example a Gresford Disaster historic record and one of the most popular a video tour around Wrexham from 1989!
