Wrexham company to take on charity walk in aid of local hospice
A team from one of Wrexham’s largest companies is to take part in this year’s Midnight Walk, raising vital funds for a local hospice.
Workers from Moneypenny, an outsourced communications provider based on the Western Gateway, will be among the hundreds taking to the streets of Wrexham for the event later this month.
Held in aid of Nightingale House Hospice, this year’s 6k and 10k wales will take place on Saturday 16th June at Llwyn Isaf. Normally a ladies-only night, this year the event is open to everyone from aged eight upwards.
And Moneypenny is looking to other companies to follow suit and help build up the number of walkers in readiness for the event.
For some of the Moneypenny team, the Midnight Walk will be their first. But the team’s organiser, Tina Pope, is a seasoned professional, having signed up for all 11 of the evening events and only missing one.
“I took part in my first Midnight Walk in 2007, just days after I started working at Moneypenny,” said Tina.
“We’ve always been happy to support the hospice. Some staff here may have had friends, family or colleagues who have needed the hospice and the support it offers – it’s a really important facility.
“As a company, we’re also rallying the troops and asking other businesses to join us. Whether putting in a team of two or a team of 10, it all makes a difference and we’d ask other local companies to consider joining in.”
The start of this year’s walk will include a special washing line featuring all of the 11 Midnight Walk event t-shirts, an idea inspired by avid walker Tina who has kept every single one of hers.
Nightingale House Hospice’s Amanda Kinsey said: “Moneypenny staff are terrific at supporting the hospice and have helped raise thousands over the last 10 years. Tina and her colleagues have been with us every step of the way.
“It costs more than £3million a year to keep the hospice going and we’re helping thousands of people every year. That might be end-of-life care, but it could also be sessions such as art therapy, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy or counselling.
“The services now offered by Nightingale House are vast which is why events like our Midnight Walk are so important in helping us to raise much-needed funds.”
