Wrexham Cake Maker Lands Place As National Finalist
A local cake maker has been named Wales’ finalist in the National Cupcake Awards 2014.
Volette Cake Cafe on Charles Street in Wrexham is the only Welsh competitor to make it through to the final stage of the competition, which will be judged at Cake International in Birmingham next month.
Mother and daughter team Jane and Sadye Chesworth from Wrexham established the business in 2012 and moved to their Wrexham town centre store and cafe in February 2014.
Jane said: “This is the first time we have entered any kind of competition with our cakes and we are just bowled over to have made it through to the finals. It’s fantastic to be short-listed alongside companies like Betty’s of Harrogate and we take it as a huge compliment indeed.”
Daughter, Sadye, added: “We make such a wide variety of cakes that it was really difficult to decide which ones to enter into the competition but it seems that the decision to enter our Volette Caramel in both Classic & Free From categories was the right one, which is great news.”
The competition was launched by industry magazine, British Baker, as part of National Cupcake Week, which took place in September. The PRO championship title will be presented by Mich Turner MBE, celebrity cake maker to HM The Queen and David Beckham, at the NEC in Birmingham on November 8th.
Bakers are competing across four different cupcake categories including Classic, With Alcohol, Free From and Themed with just one of them chosen as the overall 2014 champion.
