A heavy good vehicle has struck a railway bridge at Penyffordd.

Because of this, there are delays of up to 60 minutes to trains between Wrexham Central and Bidston. National Rail Enquries state “delays will continue until further notice”.

This was initially reported to us by a traveller on the route who referred to it as a ‘signalling problem’.

Update 16:05: Stations/routes affected – Wrexham Central, Wrexham General, Gwersyllt, Cefn-y-Bedd, Caergwrle, Hope, Penyffordd, Buckley, Hawarden, Shotton, Neston, Heswall, Upton and Bidston.

Update 16:18: Police confirm local reports that a HGV collided with the bridge, however managed to reverse out so is no longer stuck. There appears to be no damage to the bridge itself. Elliot Jones has been in touch to say that he believes that engineers are due to check the railway itself shortly, which fits with official reports which refer to the rail authority being informed at 4:06pm.

The A5014 is likely to be affected.

Elliots tweet:

FINAL UPDATE 16:44 – Elliot has been in touch , and says the train ‘is moving again’!
