Supermoon Over Wrexham – Your Pics!
Those having a nose up at the sky tonight may have noticed the moon appearing brighter and larger than usual.
Tonight saw the third Supermoon of the summer, with the moon appearing 14% larger and 30% brighter as it comes closer than usual to the Earth.
This evening’s Supermoon is the last of the summer, with the first two taking place on July 10th and August 12th. Tonight’s moon is known as the ‘Harvest Moon’, a full moon which takes places near the autumnal equinox.
The scientific term for the ‘Supermoon’ is the ‘Perigee Moon’, with the event generally occurring every 13 months and 18 days.
Many Wrexhamites got in touch with us this evening, commenting on the appearance and the of the moon.
Sara Rafferty tweeted: “Got my little one looking at the moon through binoculars earlier on tonight he even saw the face in it.” While Claire tweeted to say the moon looked ‘amazing’.
Underneath are some Supermoon pictures that were tweeted to Wrexham.com. If you took any photos of the Supermoon tonight, tweet them to @wrexham.
