Spring Has Sprung At Wrexham Country Parks
Wrexham residents are being encouraged to get out and about in the borough’s beautiful country parks this spring.
At Ty Mawr Country Park there are 26 new additions to the flock of sheep who have all been given Royal Jubilee themed names such as Queen Elizabeth I, Victoria and Albert and the more obscure Elthelred the Unready.
Ty Mawr has also welcomed Llewellyn Bach, possibly the smallest lamb in Wales weighing in at only 2lb 7oz -and only about 6″ tall.
At Nant Mill Visitor Centre the bravest bluebells are already peeking out of mossy hollows, along with wood anemones and bright red scarlet elf cup fungus. Meanwhile down at the river, dippers and grey wagtails are gathering materials for their nests.
Swathes of wild garlic are coming into leaf in the woodlands of Alyn Waters, with bright yellow lesser celendines also beginning to make an appearance.
At Bellevue Park in Wrexham town centre several thousand daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops have been planted over the winter, along with around 500 new shrubs to replace ageing stock. At Acton around 1,000 daffodils have also been planted with the Friends of Acton Park.
There are seven country parks across the county borough offering easy access to the countryside. Visitors can enjoy walks in beautiful woodlands, wander alongside the rivers Clywedog, Alyn and Dee or visit the spectacular Cefn Viaduct and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
Alyn Waters Country Park between Gwersyllt and Llay has a series of easy walks and cycle tracks for safe biking. Ty Mawr at Cefn Mawr has superb views of the Vale of Llangollen and of the Viaduct.
Nant Mill Visitor Centre nestles in woodland alongside the beautiful River Clywedog. Bonc yr Hafod, Hafod Community Park has spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
