A six-week road closure on one of Wrexham’s busiest routes will be implemented this week.

From Friday 21st July the road underneath Stansty Railway Bridge will be closed to motorists to allow Network Rail to “undertake essential maintenance works on the structure”.

The works will take six weeks, with the road due to reopen on Monday 4th September.

In a letter circulated to local residents earlier this month, it was noted that the dates have been chosen to minimise the impact on the general public and local community whilst the works are being carried out.

The dates do coincide with the start of the summer holidays on Friday and also the first day back of school at the start of September.

It is acknowledged however that it is anticipated that there may be some inconvenience experienced during the closure period.

Back in 2012 when the railway bridge / tunnel was closed off there were huge traffic issues in the area, with the Council having to cut short a trial of a proposed one way system. Since then there are extra houses have been built immediately to each side of the bridge.

To help mitigate the impact of the closure Network Rail state that ‘works on Grosvenor Road, and those other roads used as the diversion route, will not be permitted, unless they are deemed to be emergency work’.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that the pedestrian access under the bridge will remain open throughout the works.
