Christmas shoppers are being encouraged to go local and support independent traders tomorrow as part of Small Business Saturday.

The nationwide campaign, which aims to promote small businesses will take place on Saturday 3 December.

Now in its fourth year the theme of this weekend’s event is ‘Small Business, Big Difference’.

Across the town centre there are plenty of small businesses who will be taking part in the event, so be sure to pop in and show them your support.

To coincide with Small Business Saturday, Wrexham will play host to a Christmas Street Festival – showcasing everything that local traders have to offer.

The Street Festival will be the last one to take place this year and promises everything you need to help prepare for Christmas Day.

As usual the Street Festival stalls, live entertainment and activities will be spread around the town centre, on Regent Street, Hope Street, Queen Street, Queen’s Square, Chester Street and in the markets, from 10 am – 5 pm.

Throughout the day there will be musicians, dancers, food stalls, craft activities, Simon O’Rourke Dragon Ride and plenty of stalls selling homemade crafts and Christmas goods!

Chairman of the Town Centre Steering Group Andrew Atkinson, who has helped organise the event says it is hoped ‘as many people as possible to come into town see what’s on offer and experience the community spirit locally’.

“These events are all about showcasing what the town has to offer and we hope that people will spend time and money in the town with our excellent traders.

“Our challenge this time is simple- Spend £10. Many of us love the convenience of the supermarkets and online shopping but for the town to improve we need to use it and experience the wide range of goods on offer. We are asking local shoppers to take up the challenge starting this Saturday to transfer £10 of your spend from the supermarket to the High Street.

“We’re asking people to see what bargains there are in the town and just to start small, it could be a packet of bacon, some fruit and veg, small Christmas gifts or clothing; the town has a lot to offer and if we all spent a small portion of our weekly shopping budget there the difference would be huge. We hope lots of people will take up the £10 challenge.”

Also taking place in the People’s Market on Saturday is the opening of Santa’s Grotto, which will be open Monday – Friday 11 am – 4 pm and Saturday 10 am – 4pm.

For those driving into town, there’s free parking all day in all Council run car parks.

All activities are weather dependent and are subject to change.
