Poppy Picnic Planned For Day After VE Day Celebrations
To mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day – the day that marked the end of WWII in Europe – a Poppy Picnic is to be held on Llwyn Isaf Green this weekend.
Organised by the Royal British Legion and supported by the Town Centre Forum and Wrexham Council, a warm invitation to attend is extended to young and old and to bring a picnic and hopefully enjoy the spring sunshine on on Saturday 9th May between 12.30pm and 5pm.
Musical entertainment from the bandstand will be arranged by Quality Acoustics Sound System who will release names of acts closer to the event but they have confirmed that 6 acoustic sets are planned to provide a chilled out afternoon for all those attending.
Kevin Forbes, Community Fundraiser with the Royal British Legion, said: “It is a hugely momentous day and we will be privileged to be visited by VE veterans from across society. I hope many people will join us for the Poppy Picnic and enjoy the free musical entertainment that is being arranged.”
Nigel Lewis, Chair of the Town Centre Forum, added: “The Town Centre Forum is pleased to support this event as one of a number of events to be held in the town centre this year which will encourage people of all ages to come into the town centre to enjoy the facilities and shops on available.”
