Plas Madoc launch ‘urgent investigation’ after unused sealed hypodermic needle ‘found in pool’
Plas Madoc Leisure Centre’s management have launched an ‘urgent investigation’ after a part of a hypodermic needle was found in the pool.
Yesterday a social media post claiming a ‘needle’ had been found in the pool at the leisure centre circulated widely on Facebook, with a clear reference to drug use in the initial claim.
However it is believed the needle was part of an unused sealed insulin related hypodermic needle, and was not a threat to the public.
Plas Madoc Leisure Centre Management and the Splash Community Trust Board have issued a lengthy statement this afternoon: “Yesterday Sunday 30th September at 3.47pm there was a serious incident at Plas Madoc Leisure centre, when part of a hypodermic needle was found floating in the pool by one of our customers. Fortunately the needle was covered in a secure case but this was none the less a shocking item to find floating in the pool.”
“Early today, at our first opportunity the Board and Senior Management launched an urgent investigation and have contacted Environmental Health and North Wales Police.”
“The Leisure Centre has been overwhelmed by the public support that we have received over the last 4 years and this has been a key feature to our success. We continue to have an open door policy and welcome all feedback, good or bad and would like to reassure customers that we are taking this extremely seriously. We have not experienced an incident of this nature since we opened the building in 2014.”
“The pool has been thoroughly inspected today at all depths, including the filter systems, chlorination/disinfection levels meet all regulatory standards, are sufficient to neutralise any potential contamination, and we are confident that there is absolutely no risk to our customers.”
“We can’t understand why anyone would want to leave this type of item in a swimming pool and our organisation cannot over state how strongly we view this incident.
“We would encourage anyone with information to contact North Wales Police on 0300 300 0101 making reference to the incident number W139893.”
