The Wrexham branches of Phones4u are closed today, following last night’s announcement that the company had entered administration.

Phones4U have a store on Eagles Meadow, on Queens Street in town and inside the PC World store on Plas Coch. There are also two further stores up the road in Chester.

Phones 4U stores will be closed pending a decision by the administrators on whether they can be reopened for trading.

This morning shutters on the Wrexham branches were down, with signs posted in store window saying that an update will be provided as soon as possible. Details of the customer service lines are also listed on the sign.

More notably is the end of the message, which is signed as the ‘Heartbroken Phones4u team’.

Nationally statements have been released saying staff will be briefed by management in stores and at head office this morning. Phones 4U has 720 outlets, including 550 standalone stores, and employs 5,596 people.

BC Parters, Phones 4U’s private equity owner, said it is “intended that employees will continue to be paid until further notice”.

It is believed mobile contracts signed through the retailer will be unaffected and honoured by the networks involved.
