A 10k charity run is set to return to Wrexham next month following a successful event last year.

Nightingale House Hospice’s Spring 10k is a popular running event that takes participants on a route through Wrexham. This year’s event will return to the town on Sunday April 6th.

Last year’s event saw over 400 fundraisers take part in the event to raise funds for Nightingale House Hospice, which provides palliative care services to adults within the North East Wales region.

The 10k run is affiliated to Welsh Athletics and will start and finish at Queensway International Stadium, Wrexham (LL13 8UH) at 12noon.

The route will follow an closed road course giving participants the unique opportunity to run on the roads without the worry of traffic and will also be timed by a professional chip and mat system. The final 400metres of the race will complete a lap of the athletics track where supporters can cheer participants over the finish line.

Road closures, which have been approved by the Wrexham County Borough Council Highways Department will take effect from 11:30am until 2pm on Sunday 6 April in the following locations: Queensway, Cefn Road onto Redwither Lane, Erlas Lane, Bryn Estyn Lane onto the Greyhound roundabout, the top of Cefn Road, Fenwick Drive, Hullah Lane, Holt road and Montgomery Road.

Margaret Hollings, Fundraising and Events Manager at the Hospice said: “Last year the Great Wrexham Road Runner raised in excess of £10,000 for Nightingale House Hospice. We expect the event to be very popular again this year and are thankful to our main event sponsors Wockhardt and Wholebake for supporting the event this year.

“By closing the roads for this event, it gives runners the unique opportunity of running on the roads without the worry of traffic, whilst we know this can cause inconvenience for road users for a short period of time, we appreciate your patience and will endeavour to open the roads as soon as we can”.
