A new photography competition designed to celebrate 10 years of World Heritage Site Status for the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is underway.

Over the next four months there will be different themes for photographers to take part in – with each one designed to showcase all 11-miles of the site.

Following the 10-year anniversary of the site being added to the list of global World Heritage Sites by UNESCO last month, the visitor management team are working with Ty Pawb to stage an exhibition later this year of all the images submitted to the competition.

The first theme, which started on July 15th, asks photographers to capture images with the theme of ‘history & heritage’ with all images needing to be captured within the 11-mile corridor between Llantysilio (Horseshoe Falls) and Gledrid in Shropshire.

Speaking about the competition, Cllr Terry Evans, Wrexham Council’s lead member for economic development and regeneration, said: “This is a celebratory year for the local community and those involved with the management of the visitor experience at this key tourism site for Wales.

“I really encourage visitors to share their images – whether professional or just an image from your mobile phone – as the pictures received will form a fascinating exhibition about the 11-mile site later this year at Ty Pawb.”

There will be a monthly winning entry and a runner-up, each receiving a prize and a prime display in the Ty Pawb exhibition in November 2019.

How can I enter the competition?

Photographers can email JPEG images (less than 10Mb in size) to [email protected] or publish your images on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Canal World Heritage Site Facebook page, tweet @pontcysyllte or tag your photos on Instagram using #10years11miles
