New Images Of ‘OW Peoples Market’ Arts Hub Conversion Released
The ‘arts hub’ conversion of the Peoples Market is well underway, and a set of new imagery has been put in the public domain to show what end result could be.
14 days ago Wrexham.com saw images of the new inside of the Arts Hub / Peoples Market conversion and enquired if digital copies were available along with an update on the development progress – after a few nudges Wrexham Council have sent over the below, with more due to be published on the Oriel Wrecsam’s social media.
The main internal image we saw a copy of is below, and if you click it you can view a blown up more detailed version:
Wrexham Council have said “The artistic images show different areas in the centre and how they can be utilised by the public. They give an overview of how the centre will look and feel and provide detail on what will be included within the building such as the market stalls, galleries, food courts and office spaces.
The Council add: “The development will act as a resource to inspire creative innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as celebrate Wrexham’s rich history as a market town, recognising markets as an important part of our cultural heritage and future.”
The OW Peoples Market will have 2 gallery spaces, one of which will be climate controlled to allow for a wider variety of exhibitions to be brought to Wrexham.
The centre will also have 20 market spaces and 3 food outlets with open seating into the market space.
The statement added, “The design and development of space will enable the flexible performance area to be open to the public from all angles or closed off for a particular event, allowing for additional specialised markets and a range of other activities. In order to achieve this, on the first floor there will be learning studios for an exciting programme of art and craft classes to take place.”
The total estimated cost of the redevelopment is £4,563,500 with £2.3 million from the Arts Council Wales, £700,000 from the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places scheme and £1,563,500 from Wrexham Council.
The Council say the development will be ‘distinctive for its pioneering combination of a broad arts programme and market offer under one roof’.
Wynne Construction are on site carrying out the works, with the official opening to take place in the Spring of 2018.
