Man Dies in Multiple Vehicle Collision on A55
A multiple vehicle collision on the A55 has resulted in the death of one man and has left an elderly woman seriously injured.
Officers from Cheshire Roads Policing team have since issued an appeal for information following the fatal collision on the A55 near Chester.
The collision occurred on the A55 westbound carriageway between junction 38, Post House roundabout and junction 36A at Broughton at approximately 11.30 today. As a result of the collision the road was closed for five hours.
The incident involved three vehicles, a white DAF HGV, a white ford transit van and a beige Citroen Picasso.
Following the collision an 80-year-old-woman was airlifted to hospital and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, he is currently being held in police custody.
As a result of the collision the A55 was closed westbound from the A483, Posthouse Roundabout, which resulted in major delays in the local area.
Inspector Liz Cunningham said: “We are looking to appeal to anyone who was in the local area at the time of the incident and believes that they may be able to help with our investigation.
“We appeal to anyone who might have seen a broken down Citroen Xsara and a white recovery vehicle on the hard shoulder, particularly those who might have driven past at around the time of the collision, to contact us.
“Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 297 of 4/9/2015.”
