Local Man Arrested in Connection With Attempted Convenience Store Robberies

Police investigating two attempted robberies in Wrexham on Sunday have arrested a man.

A 36-year-old local male was arrested this morning on suspicion of attempted robbery at McColl’s newsagents in Rhosnesni Lane and at the Spar on Chester Road, Gresford.

The incident in Rhosnesni took place at 7:50am on Sunday February 12 and at 8:05am in Gresford.

It is understood that three men took part; one armed with a hammer and a second with a knife, while a third remained in a stolen red Fiat car which was later found abandoned at the Beeches Premier Inn on Chester Road.

DI Mark Hughes said; “A 36-year-old male is currently in custody at Wrexham Police station helping police with enquiries.

“I would like to repeat our appeal to the public for any information about these offences on Sunday and the recent incidents in the Wrexham area where newsagents and off licences have been robbed.
