A Wrexham woman has been banned from keeping animals for life after admitting offences against four dogs, two cats and four kittens.

Ms Adele Ankers, of Heol Maelor, Coedpoeth, pleaded guilty to Animal Welfare Act offences, concerning two German Shepherds, two terrier dogs, two cats and four kittens.

Ankers’ neglect resulted in four of the animals suffering unnecessarily – two German Shepherds, named Bonny and Lennon; and two terriers, named Marley and Marvin. She also admitted failing to meet the needs of the dogs, and six felines – two cats named Tom and Mini, and four kittens.

RSPCA Cymru attended the Coedpoeth property where they discovered the bodies of Marley and Marvin, and other animals kept in filthy conditions. German Shepherds Bonny and Lennon, along with cats Tom and Mini were signed over into RSPCA care, while four kittens were later also rescued from the property.

She was sentenced at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 22 June. Further to the lifetime ban, Ankers was given a 16-week community order, a curfew between the hours of 8pm and 8am, and told to pay £300 in costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

The lifetime disqualification cannot be contested for a period of 10 years.

Tim Jones, RSPCA inspector, said: “It’s so sad that the welfare of such a large number of animals was compromised in this severe case.

“RSPCA Cymru found two dead terriers at the property, and other animals kept in hugely inappropriate conditions. It’s so sad to imagine them living like that.

“The owner should have done a lot more to consider the needs of her animals; with this case highlighting the consequences – both for the animal, and their owner – if they are not cared for in line with the law.”
