Access to Wrexham Industrial Estate’s Northern section is set to undergo major traffic layout changes.

Drivers are advised that traffic has been temporarily switched from the existing A534 Holt Road onto a newly constructed road alongside to allow safe construction of the new dual carriageway section.

On completion, traffic will switch again onto the new permanent dual carriageway allowing the “temporary” route to be used as a permanent combined footway, cycleway and agricultural access.

Wrexham Council is urging all road users to be aware of the changed layout and have said that progress on the new road remains on target for completion next year.

Work on the long-awaited £35million access road finally started in June, the need for the new road was originally identified in the 1970s, however funding could not be obtained till the 90s and an extensive preparation and a public enquiry caused the project to be further delayed.

Councillor David Bithell, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for the Environment Department said,

“The weekend’s temporary switch of all traffic onto the newly-constructed highway marked a significant milestone in the construction of the long-awaited industrial estate access roads.

“It will allow the construction of the new dual-carriageway A534 Holt Road to be carried out safely and efficiently, whilst minimising traffic disruption.

“We look forward to the opening, next summer, of the new high-standard roads which will provide much improved access to the industrial estate and provide relief along the existing routes.”
