Housing Conversion Proposed For Disused Commercial Buildings
Plans have been put forward to convert disused commercial buildings in Wrexham town centre into housing.
In the application submitted to Wrexham Council it has been proposed that vacant commercial buildings at the rear of Glow Salon, on Charles Street, are converted into four apartments.
The proposed development has no impact on the trading of the business or the frontage of the building.
The site has been chosen due to its proximity to the town centre, with the application stating that the development is ‘ideally suited to people seeking employment or in employment close to the town centre’.
Along with the proposed change of use to the buildings the application also consists of two new pedestrian access points into the apartments.
Access to apartments one and two would be located off the car park at the rear of the site (on Market Street) and access to the remaining two apartments would be located to the side of the property via and existing shared access.
The Design and Access Statement concludes: “We are utilising an existing resource and creating new housing within an existing structure. The current use of the building is vacant and unused storage space. So, rather than letting the building deteriorate, we are seeking to improve localised residential aspects.
“By allowing this proposal to take place, disused units can take a new lease of life and support the local community by providing new residential apartments suitable for the younger generation and students.
“We feel this planning application should be looked favourably upon as we feel there are no justifiable reasons for refusal.”
The application is expected to go before Wrexham Council’s Planning Committee at a later date.
