History Of Co-ops Exhibition Comes To Eagles Meadow
A national tour exploring the history of Cooperatives came to Wrexham this evening, with impressive screens set up in Eagles Meadow to document their journey.24 large screens, lit up at night, detail various aspects of the cooperative movements history and successes.
Wrexham.com were told this evening how there is an increased prevalence of the cooperative model in the backdrop of potentially unsustainable business models, and such models could benefit from support from stakeholders such as councils.
Wrexham has two examples of cooperatives, with Wrexham FC being fans owned via the Wrexham Supporters Trust and Saith Seren Welsh centre, facts mentioned in the opening event by Council Leader Neil Rogers. Cllr Rogers referred back to the ‘dark days’ of the football club, and said he was jealous that the staduim is now owned by Glyndwr University as he would have liked it to have been a community owned asset.
The unavoidable mention of the recent scandal to hit the ‘Co-op’ name did crop up, however those we spoke with said they were ‘hopeful for the future despite a rapidly changing 18 months or so’.
The opening was marked with an event held at the Wynnstay where Wrexham’s Community Choir sang, including one memorable song based off a inuit reindeer call!
The exhibition is due to stay at Eagles Meadow through to the new year.
