Freedom Parade Through Streets of Wrexham
On Friday 5th April around 280 soldiers from the 101 Force Support Battalion will march through the streets of Wrexham town centre.
Following the granting the Freedom of the Borough by Wrexham Council, around 280 soldiers from Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) will take part in the parade.
The soldiers, who have have recently returned from UN Peacekeeping duties in Cyprus, will begin their Freedom March from their base at Hightown Barracks at 11.00 am.
They will then march to town via Kingsmills Road, Salop Road, Mount Street, Yorke Street, High Street, Hope Street, Queens Street and Queens Square. They aim to arrive at Llwyn Isaf at 11.30, before returning along the reverse route at 12 noon.
The Battalion has been based at Hightown Barracks since 1999 and have formed close links with the County Borough by enlisting local men and women and work within the community. They have also supported the wider armed forces in the area.
The Freedom of the Borough will be signed at a special Council meeting that will take place at 10.00 am. At this meeting the Council, along with many other community and public organisations will also sign a Community Covenant with the Armed Services.
The Covenant is designed to encourage the public to support the armed forces in their area and improve public understanding of the issues affecting personnel.
