A former builder’s yard could soon be transformed by plans to create a new bakery and offices.

Proposals have been put forward which would see around 214,000 square feet of land redeveloped at Gutter Hill in Johnstown.

The site is next to the village’s fire station and has stood vacant for a number of years.

Planners acting on behalf of those behind the scheme have claimed bringing it back into use will provide a boost to the area’s economy.

In documents put forward to Wrexham Council, they said: “The proposals involve the development of the site to provide a new bakery and office over a floor area of 214,000 sq ft.

“The building will be developed along with a new access road, service yards, car paring, HGV loading/unloading area and retention of existing wooded area and ponds with ecological enhancements and mitigation.

“A mixture of commercial and residential properties surrounds the site, which was once a builder’s yard, but has been vacant for many years.

“The character of the estate will not be harmed, but to the contrary will improve and enhance and provide a positive contribution to its overall appearance.

“The proposed development will provide employment opportunities for local tradesmen, of which there are many in the Wrexham area, and building works such as this will stimulate wider benefits, not only in terms of generating wealth at the build stage, but also during the lifetime of the building by positively contributing to the local economy by employing local people.”

The local authority will make a decision on the plans at a later date.
