A crash near Ruabon closed off the A483 southbound for just under two hours this evening, with traffic slowing northbound.

Update 7:35pm:  The A483 southbound has now reopened and the road has been cleared.

Update 7:15: Report from Traffic Wales that the A483 southbound has reopened – as usual awaiting official confirmation from police. There are no details on the condition of those involved in the incident as of yet.

Lindy has posted on our Facebook Page saying “I was in one of the cars immediately after the crash. 5 vehicles involved. I gave first aid at the scene; thankfully no one is seriously injured which is a miracle given the damage to the cars”, others have reported that the occupants of the vehicles had freed themselves prior to emergency services arriving.

Update 6:35pm: Diversions are still in place, and Shaun who is in the queue behind the incident, has got in touch to say “traffic moving slowly now.. Police have cleared a route through. Well done to emergency services. Hope everyone is ok.” @kingsevans tweeted to say: “cars coming up slip road WRONG way to avoid RTC nr Ruabon, Chaos A483 at a standstill, lots of traffic going through Ruabon village”. It is currently unclear if the road has reopened partially, or if the traffic movement is due to police taking traffic off the route via sliproads.

Official information so far reads: “Road blocked and queueing traffic due to accident, up to five vehicles involved”, with North Wales Police saying at 6pm “Following a collision, A483 Southbound, traffic is backing up to Rhostyllen turn off. Diversions in place, will update shortly.”

The incident occurred around 5:30pm, with police starting to remove the queued traffic from the bypass around 6:30pm.

Shaun has told of the emergency service response, saying: “2 x fire engines, 2 x ambulances, multiple police cars and both lanes closed” adding later “people just turning off engines and stretching legs, ready for the long wait ahead. Hope all are ok though.”

Jason has told us: “Large crash on A483 between Plassey & Ruabon junction, looks very bad, all lanes closed west bound.”
