Find out more about Wrexham’s new £10.5m extra care scheme at series of information sessions

A series of further drop-in events have been organised for people interested in finding out more about a new extra care development opening in Wrexham.

Maes y Dderwen, located on Grosvenor Road, aims to provide an alternative to residential care and is specifically designed for local people aged 60 or over who wish to live independently in a home of their own with 24-hour access to care support.

The £10.5m extra care housing scheme has been developed in partnership between Wrexham Council, the Welsh Government and the Pennaf Housing Group. It has been funded with support from the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant (SHC) and Vibrant and Viable Places funding (VVP) secured by Wrexham County Borough Council, along with private finance arranged by the Pennaf Housing Group.

A series of drop-in events about the new facility have already taken place, with three more set to take place throughout April at the Wrexham Museum on Regent Street.

The upcoming dates for the information event are:

Monday, April 16 – 10am to 4pm
Saturday, April 21 – 11am to 2pm
Monday, April 23 – 10am to 4pm
Monday, April 30 – 10am to 4pm

Photographs, plans, a short film, brochures and fact sheets on Maes y Dderwen will be available, and a representative from the Pennaf Group will also be on hand to answer questions from any interested parties.

Cllr Joan Lowe, lead member for adult social care at Wrexham Council, said: “Interest is building up for Maes y Dderwen and we’re very glad to say that news of the development has already attracted some very positive feedback – but we know some members of the public may be considering Extra Care as an option for their future housing, and we wanted to hold further information events to make sure they could get all the information they need.”

“The scheme is an excellent option for those with a wide range of support needs, from those just looking for a little extra help to those with more complex requirements.”
