An area to the east of Llywn Isaf in the town centre is currently fenced off with demolition work set to take place on buildings inside.

The small set of buildings, believed to be formally a pair of garages and later used as lock ups, have been in poor condition for several years and have at times attracted anti social behaviour nearby.

We queried with Wrexham Council what the plans were for the site, that also includes two large flower beds.

Council Leader Pritchard told us there ‘has been a review of assets’ and as a result the garages and lock ups are ‘no longer needed or required’.

“We will be demolishing them and will be putting extra car parking spaces on the plot. Parking in this area is at a premium, and we are looking to reduce our asset list.”

Seeing the move as a way to save some money for the authority he added, “There won’t be any more repairing or maintenance spending on them.”

Cllr Pritchard added, “We won’t be spending on assets if we do not need them. There is an annual review done by myself and officers on all assets, if they are redundant or costing money with no need or requirement to have them we will either be selling them or removing them from the location.

“We have reduced the asset list and will continue to do it. We are not in the game to keep assets that are no longer required.

“These days it is expensive to repair and maintain any build or facility, let alone unused or unneeded ones.”
