Dozens of bikers dressed as Evel Knievel are leaving Wrexham this morning and hitting the road to start a 1000 mile epic fundraising journey, with Bank Holiday Monday being your chance to be part of a world record attempt.

The riders, who will all be dressed as the motorcycle legend, will travel across Wales to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. With your help they are also hoping to earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the ‘Largest Gathering of Evel Knievels’ in Wrexham town centre on Monday.

The world record attempt is taking place between 4:30-6:30pm on Bank Holiday Monday as the ride returns to Wrexham, with the riders congregating on Llwyn Isaf outside the Guildhall. The Wrexham public are invited to attend to witness the attempt, and if you dress up accordingly you can take part and potentially become a world record holder yourself. People are encouraged to grab a cheap outfit from eBay or Amazon and dress up as Evel Knievel, or for those making home made efforts ensure you bring a white helmet along as it is a key part of what will be counted by the officials from the Guiness Book of Records. (Check into the record attempt Facebook event page here!)

The overall ride out event kick starts at 9am this morning with Mayor Andy Williams and Mayoress Mrs Beverley Williams seeing the riders off from the High Street – via a life size ‘energiser’, modelled on the classic toy.

The team will continue its perimeter route over the next five days and include laps of three motor circuits – the Kinsham, Pembrey and Anglesey Circuits, with the full day by day timetable below!

The following days will see the team set out at 09:00 from Monmouth, Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Holyhead, before completing the ride back to Wrexham on the afternoon of Bank Holiday Monday.

Over the next few days they will ride for up to 12 hours day over back lanes and pit lanes, visit remote hamlets and the capital city and take in some of the best scenery in Wales.

RIDE Cymru is in its eighth year and has raised well over £80,000 for charity, with numbers taking part year-on-year continuing to increase.
