Dirty water issues have once again hit parts of Wrexham.

Residents in Acton and Garden Village say they have seen dirty water running from their taps.

Jonathan Moss (@aubrey_jon_moss) tweeted us to say: “have you got to the bottom of this brown water? Chester road has it bad tonight.”

Alicia Owen also reported problems in Garden Village, she told us: “nasty brown water in Garden Village this morning. :-(”

We got in touch with Dee Valley Water and they said that the disturbance of deposits caused by mains cleaning has caused discolouration.

The company is currently running mains flushes in the area to alleviate the problems and has advised residents to keep running their cold taps until the water returns to its normal colour.

They have also warned people not to use the water for any water appliances until the supply has cleared.

Today’s problems are one in spate of dirty water problems experienced in Wrexham in recent months.

When we called Dee Valley for comment earlier in the month to get to the route of the issue we were told they were “not obliged to say what has caused the persistent problems.”

However, we have trawled the company’s Annual Regulatory Report for 2012 and found that they were caused by a mains burst on the Wrexham Ring Main and by illegal tankering in the Legacy supply zone.

In the report Dee Valley says: “We have now given an Undertaking to the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) to clean the Wrexham Ring Main in order to mitigate the risk of discoloured water to our customers should another burst occur.”
