Coleg Cambria is offering a new course which designed to progress students directly onto university to study a degree within the construction profession.

The course will be the first locally to ensure all modules link directly to the Building Information Modelling system (BIM), including Design, Production and Facilities Management. Modules covered will include Health and Safety, Construction Science and Materials, Economics, Design Procedures, CAD, Property Law, Building Technology, Measurement and Surveying as well as many more.

Subject areas in which a degree can be studied following completion of this 2 year BTEC Course include Architecture, Architectural Technologist, Quantity Surveyor, Building Surveyor, Site Manager, Project Manager, Civil Engineer, Building Services Engineer, among others.

Head of Programmes for the Built Environment at the College, Dave Roberts said: “We have identified a need for a strong Level 3 professional course that properly prepares learners for dealing with the modern industry and fully incorporates BIM. The majority of university courses will discuss BIM and more and more employers are setting themselves up to be able to work with BIM projects. It was these local needs that were the main reason for developing this course to ensure our learners get the best start to their journey in this exciting new area.”

Wyn Prichard, CITB Wales Director said: “This is an excellent example of wider thinking by a FE College in Wales, to meet industry and future technology needs. The Minister has already highlighted the importance of BIM, and with Cambria leading for the North as part of the All Wales BIM Hub, this course shows the positive action being taken in the skills arena. CITB Wales and the Wales BIM Hub fully support this work, and look forward to it making a real difference for the industry and employee in Wales – we look forward to more innovation and solutions for the industry in the coming months.”

Coleg Cambria boasts a teaching team with many years’ experience who successfully work closely with high achievers to get them a place in university. For more information please call Coleg Cambria Student Services on 01244 834511 or visit www.wrexham.com
