Coleg Cambria Care For Orphaned Hedgehogs Over Winter

Five orphaned hedgehogs have arrived at the Animal Care Centre at Coleg Cambria Northop to spend winter there before being released back into the countryside in Spring.

The college was contacted by Capricorn Animal Rescue to look after the hedgehogs as the weather conditions are too extreme for them to survive on their own throughout the winter.

Level 3 Animal Care students and their tutor Helen Thewsey carried out extensive research into how looking after hedgehogs and preparing them for release which led to them creating a special enclosure for their stay at the Northop site.

Sheila Stewart from Capricorn Animal Rescue said: “We were more than happy to provide Coleg Cambria with the five hoglets. They will provide students with a new experience as not many people get the chance to work with and care for hedgehogs. We know they will get the best of care at Coleg Cambria.”
