National Lottery winner Alan Phillips, 59, is celebrating a National Lottery milestone with the delivery of a millionaire worthy gold playstation to the Co-op where he bought his winning scratchcard.

Alan, from Wrexham, who scooped £1M on the £1 Million Monopoly scratchcard, has unveiled a lucky gold playstation at the Co-op in Poplar Road, Wrexham, in the hope that his good fortune may now rub off on others.

Giving it his own stamp of approval with a gold handprint, he wrote a message of luck to all future lottery players directly onto the gold playstation.

Alan said: “It was fantastic to go back to the Co-op where I bought my winning scratchcard.

“This store will always have a special place in my heart – after all it is The National Lottery and this local shop which changed my life forever.

“The gold playstation is very swanky and I just hope that it brings lots of other people lots of National Lottery luck.

“While I’m still working as a taxi driver, the win has allowed me to look after those closest to me and give back to deserving families in the community. I’ve been lucky with my win and it’s only right that I do my bit for those who are less fortunate than me.”

John Jones, Assistant Manager of the Co-op Poplar Road, was delighted to see Alan and thanked him for the gold playstation, “We were really pleased to hear that a winner purchased their scratchcard at one of our stores. To have been instrumental in such a positive life changing experience has made all of us feel great. Reaching 5,000 lottery millionaires is an amazing milestone, and we hope that there are many more from Co-op stores in the future.”

Last week local MP Ian Lucas was trying to get some data on the National Lottery and Wrexham, and although his question is not answered The National Lottery has issued some PR that notes a total of 347 players have banked a ‘big prize’ and this includes ’56 millionaires’ “in the Wrexham post code area, (LL)”.

The National Lottery PR specifically refers to ‘new data released’, and of course the LL postcode being the ‘Wrexham area’, which in reality extends a little bit further.

The National Lottery say: “Analysis of the 5,000 reveals that National Lottery luck is booming in Wrexham. In all 347 players have banked a big prize and this includes a very lucky 56 millionaires. Nationally more than 38,800 big winners of £50,000 or more have been made across all National Lottery games since 1994.”

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at the National Lottery said, “The winners team here at Camelot travel the length and breadth of the country paying out lucky winners every day. It is no surprise to me to see how lucky Wrexham has been and I’m sure I’ll be back there soon with another giant cheque.”

The PR notes: “National Lottery wins are now also starting to support future generations. In all 57% of winners will make their child or children a millionaire and 36% believe they will make their grandchildren millionaires in the future.”

Andy Carter said, “After the shock and excitement nearly all winner first questions is how they can look after their nearest and dearest. In many cases this seems to be the winner’s even greater joy than thinking about how they can treat themselves.

“I see first-hand the effect a win can have on the circle of people close to a winner, and this always reminds me that at heart we are a nation that is kind and generous.”
