On Wednesday North Wales Police and other partners targeted metal thefts in Wrexham, conducting stops on vehicles.

We believe the large police operation spotted on the Industrial Estate on Wednesday was due to this.

Activity concentrated on unregistered mobile scrap metal collectors and those who have no records for the items in the back of the vehicle.

The results from the ‘high visibility’ multi-agency metal theft operation in the Wrexham area are as follows.

  • 42 vehicles stopped and checked
  • 2 seizures of metal
  • 2 found with insecure load
  • 1 warning for incorrect record keeping
  • 1 found with no MOT
  • 1 found with no insurance
  • 1 Tachograph offence
  • 1 using mobile phone
  • 1 found with no road tax

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) also issued 14 prohibition notices.

The Deptartment of Work and Pensions also identified 7 offences of working while claiming benefits.
