Affordable housing plans for Brymbo backed by councillors
Plans to build 18 new affordable houses in Brymbo have been backed unanimously by councillors.
The development on Blast Road includes a mixtures of houses, flats and bungalows.
Details lodged with Wrexham Council for consideration stated the application had been “submitted on the basis of 100 per cent affordable housing provision.”
However Natural Resources Wales say it has “significant concerns with the proposal if an appropriate great crested newt mitigation proposal is not presented.”
Concerns were also raised by three out of the 29 neighbouring residents consulted,
Last night members of Wrexham Council’s planning committee unanimously voted in favour of giving the application the go ahead.
Speaking at the yesterday’s meeting, Planning Officer, David Williams explained that the “principle of residential development is long established on this site”.
He added: “It is a fairly difficult site to develop in terms of its configuration, it’s extremely linear and we’re quite restricted.
“The actual layout is very determined by the topography and shape of the site.
“We wouldn’t normally support the extent of parking to the front in that fashion. But I think given well screened from Blast Road and that the application is for affordable housing, we are prepared to compromise to certain extent to maximise the opportunities that the site provides in terms of the numbers on there.”
Brymbo councillor, Paul Rogers, said that although there had been some objections to the development, he would be supporting the application.
Cllr Rogers said: “I am not entirely happy with site layout, but on balance I will be supporting the proposal due to the mixture of one bedroom properties, including bungalows.
“These are much needed in the community.”
The report was seconded by Ruabon councillor Dana Davies, who added that she welcomed the plans for affordable housing in the area.
