20 Wrexham businesses sign up to free water bottle refill campaign

Around 20 businesses in Wrexham have signed up to an initiative which allows people to enjoy water when they’re out and about and fill up reusable water bottles for free.

Cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town have signed up to the Refill scheme which is being rolled out by not for profit organisation City To Sea and water company Hafren Dyrdwy – with support from the Welsh Government.

The Refill Scheme aims to promote free tap water, helping keep people hydrated, as well as bringing environmental benefits by reducing the use of plastic bottles.

Louise Moir, from Hafren Dyfrdwy, said: “We saw a great reaction from businesses in Wrexham. They really wanted to get involved with the Refill campaign and understand more about it, and we’re really hopeful that many more businesses will join in the coming weeks and months.

“Everyone showed a real interest in the campaign which is ultimately there to make water as accessible as possible and cut down on single plastic bottle use.

“It’s been a great success and we look forward to seeing the campaign grow not only in Wrexham, but across the whole of Wales.”

Llyr Gruffydd, Plaid Cymru’s North Wales Assembly Member, said: “I fully support the campaign to refill empty water bottles using tap water. Water is an important natural resource and beneficial for people’s health and wellbeing. I hope all businesses will support the Refill campaign.”

Refill Cymru Coordinator, Hannah Osman, added: “The support and enthusiasm for Refill from Hafren Dyfrdwy has been amazing and the company’s volunteers were able to help Refill connect with lots of businesses in Wrexham.

“I look forward to continuing to work with them as we arrange our next Refill action day in Powys.”

The Refill app can be downloaded for free on Google Play or the App Store. The next action day in Wales will take place across the Powys area on 28 November as both organisations look to sign up more rural businesses.
