Interesting Lead Council Member Bob Dutton who was behind the stopping of grass cutting has stepped down this evening.

I have travelled in all the neighbouring council areas and grass cutting is taking place as normal, you come back into Wrexham and it just looks scruffy and unkept. Another poor decision from the council.

Instead of giving people dole money they should be paid to cut grass.

Quote Wxm.com article – The Council told us they are: “…responsible for those areas of land and as such holds public liability insurance for any works undertaken on the land. In the event of a claim against the Council in respect of the actions of an individual or organisation on Council land, the Council or its insurers would seek indemnity from the individual or organisation”

Specific to the query on if people would get into any kind of trouble we were told “Works undertaken on Council land without express permission are unauthorised and are carried out at the risk of the individual or organisation.

“The Council will not be granting permission for such works to be undertaken.”

What happens if someone mows the grass and the mower throws up a stone & hits someone. In the old days this would have been an accident but in these days of ambulance chasers it would an opportunity for some to sue.

The problem also, because its left to grow so long then the massive grass ‘clippings’ left to compost just leave huge mounds of rotting grass. So as well as it looking a mess with long grass it takes many weeks to look tidy again….. Even if they were to then cut it often, which of course they have no plans to do anyway!

Council has reversed the decision and is back to cutting four times a year. Noticed a lot more cutting this week.
