Yet again Councillors retain their free parking in their exclusive car park,at the expense of now charging disabled badge holders. This obvious income source has been ignored for over ten years. Councillors obviously find this decision, impossible as opposed to difficult !

Agreed! But as with everywhere, there is no divine right to provide parking – inc the hospital! I do think that blue badgers should pay, i agree with close procimitry parking but not free. Just cause you have blue badge doesnt mean poor! Happy New year!

Without free parking they would not be able to do their duties so nobody should have an issue with Councillors or top Management being given free parking outside of their place of work.

Using the car park to carry out duties is one thing but that privilege is abused by councillors just nipping in to town or even the Welsh pub ( Saith Seren ) FACT .

How would they not be able to do their duties without ‘FREE’ parking?? Or even ‘OUTSIDE’ of their place of work?? Does every single Councilor or manager drive and own a car then? If not, they should be sacked by your argument!

Apologies if I have missed it but where does it say that Councillors are retaining their free parking?

Does anyone think that Pritchard is bending the truth a little? This suggestion that they have listened to what was said and so changed their minds on many of the cuts.

They are still slashing 250k off the music budget
They are still cutting park rangers even though there were hundreds of objections to it

and for a man who has his photo in the papers virtually every day of the week Bithell is being unusually coy about his plans for the bin collections

There were also hundreds of comments about cutting councillors pay and expenses – no comment whatsoever on this? Perhaps he is saving that discussion for the meeting next week?

It does not state that it will stay but neither does it state that the free Councilor /Senior Management free car parking was being abolished to create income.

A free car parking space is not a ‘tool of the trade’ that is required for someone to fulfill their job so unsure what Councillor X is referring to.

I wonder if these are being reported as a ‘perk’ and HMRC have approved the scheme.

The act of providing Free car parking for some staff and not others who have similar non-office based functions is a breach of the Council own Equalities Policies- why have the Unions not brought a case of discrimination.

“We asked if members of the public should be targeted for parking charges as a revenue raiser while some members of Council staff and Councillors (if they take it up) get a free town centre parking perk right outside the Guildhall.
Cllr Bithell pointed out that it was an ‘operational matter’ and various meetings had taken place on that topic. It was referenced and recognised that in the recent ‘Difficult Decisions’ the highest average scoring suggestion being to withdraw the perk of free parking for some council staff and all councillors – the full response summary PDF is here.
In a watch-this-space style nod Cllr Bithell noted that the report before councillors next week is to kick off the necessary statutory legal consultation required for the implementation of the country park and disabled parking, and thus councillors own parking arrangement would not come under that, but would require a separate piece of work.”
