So Ronald McDonald has opened and sure enough there are giant cues of lazy people wanting a fast food fix.

When the pubs were open there were a lot of divorced dads who would say they are taking their kids out for a meal at the weekend. It would be to a fast food place so they don’t have to cook or take them back to their crappy houses. Forget the damage it does to kids.

I would not entertain kids with a Wimpy (remember them? Take them to a Wetherspoons because they have proper food and you can get a drink (when they open)

Ronald is the ‘Malboro man’ for kids.

And already there’s McDonald’s branded rubbish dumped at the entrance to The Hollow at Whitehurst.

Thing is it’s sad that people flock back to McDonald’s the SECOND it re-opens. There’s a lot of parental responsibility in terms of rushing the kids down there this time, my kids don’t have a clue that it’s re-opened, so the whole closure has broken any pester power they once exhibited about Happy Meals from seeing countless adverts everywhere.

So surely the average kid in Wrexham doesn’t know McDonald’s has re-opened unless they are some kind of news reading boffin.

The usual USP option that it’s a quick and easy meal to take the family out for is negated by the fact that you are having to queue for ages to get it. There are many other takeaways in Wrexham including restaurant quality food that can be delivered directly to your door at not much difference in cost.

My only conclusion is that segments of the general public as a whole of all ages suffer some kind of irrational appeal.

Wouldn’t be surprised if most of those queuing up at McDonalds will be the same people queuing to get into Wetherspoons when they are allowed to reopen.

It is unbelievable that any parent could be ‘persuaded’ by their children to go to McDonalds- no child made their way to a drive through McDonalds.

    Essential journey – No
    Healthy Food – NO
Health environment – No while eating in the car in a car park
Environmental impact – negative as car engines are left idling when in the queue
    Parental skills – poor

Can someone point out what is positive about this issue

JaneJ, Spot on, the children didn’t drive there, hopefully, these are the same people who will queue outside of Wetherspoons when it reopens.

Patrons of Wetherspoons will not have been the in that queue.

    Quoting …
Cheap and cheerful, Weatherspoons is a go-to for those of us who don’t want to spend a fortune on a meal out.
Their menu is split into different “clubs”, from curry to fish, and each of these is held on a different day.
Usefully, everything at the pub chain is clearly labelled with calorie counts.
Healthier option: Jacket Potato with Five-Bean Chili and Salad (405 kcals)

It’s not just the kids who are addicted to the junk food the likes of Mcdonalds, KFC and others sell.

One thing this pandemic must have alerted people to is the fact that obesity is one of the underlying conditions that is placing people in intensive care units if they catch coronavirus.

You are more likey to develop serious breathing problems and dying if your bmi is high.

Now really is the time for us all to eat healthier and exercise more.

This thread has become a bit of a horrible shower hasn’t it.

Parent shaming, fat shaming, drinker shaming, a dab of class shaming – implications that only lower class people go to McDonald’s and Wetherspoons.

My commentary was on the absurdity that just because McDonald’s had reopened, everyone felt compelled to go as soon ASAP despite the fact that the queues would be tedious and the end experience wouldn’t even be as good as usual even compared with their limited standards.

Perhaps a more normal reaction would be to just stop there next time you passed it. I for one hate queueing for anything and actively avoid it.

Since when did everyone become so high and mighty that everything is too good for them and that basic staples of life are suddenly intolerable activities and people who indulge in these activities are addicts or bad people?

I guarantee anyone feeling holier than thou because they’ve slightly been able to clean up their act during lockdown because there’s been nothing to do, those good habits will soon slide as soon as everything is back up and running and normal, vices will start slipping in. That’s just human nature.
