Wrexham Council has entered a planning application to demolish 14 buildings on the Redwither Central Industrial Estate so that part of the land can be turned into a warehouse and distribution centre.

The council has owned and managed the site on Wrexham Industrial Estate since 1984 and has been progressively clearing buildings from it over the last 10 years.

The authority said that the remaining buildings have now reached the end of their useful life and that they are taking action to secure the future of the Redwither site.

A Chinese investor has stepped forward to redevelop 1.1 hectares of the area and turn it into a new warehouse and distribution centre which could create 30 jobs in the process.

A shared access road would also be built along with a secondary road to link it to the south of the site.

Newt mitigation works are expected to take place before any work can start and the demolition of the buildings will require work to remove asbestos which is expected to start in October.

Demolition works will then commence in November before the new development is started in December which is expected to last 24 weeks.

The rest of the land will be marketed off to developers or owner occupiers.
