A loud bang which sounded like an explosion was heard late last night after a blown fuse caused a power outage in Wrexham.

We received several concerned tweets to our @wrexham account from residents living near the Holt Lodge on the A534 Wrexham Road shortly after 10pm last night.

Katy Smith said: “Large bang heard in distance now second power cut of the day, on the main road nr Holt Lodge!”

She reported that the bang was loud but far away and sounded like something had exploded.

Naomi Rennie said that the Holt Lodge Hotel had also been affected by the outage.

Scottish Power said that a blown fuse caused by yesterday’s heavy rain showers was to blame for the noise and subsequent power cuts.

There had also been a power cut in the same area earlier in the day although power was quickly restored.

Jane Holmes, a spokeswoman for Scottish power said: “We were called at 10.20pm last night about a power outage in Wrexham. Bad weather had caused one of the fuses to clash with a conductor which would account for the large bang.

“14 customers were affected and power was restored at 00.20am. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
