Next week Yale College will embark on a recruiting process for level 3 full-time students in order to significantly aid their future academic and employment prospects.

Yale College is one of only two colleges in Wales to link with Career Academies UK (CAUK). Participation in CAUK is straightforward as it sits alongside students current learning schedules and gives them a broad insight into a number of different business related areas. Students also benefit from unique career support in the form of local employers offering guru lectures, mentoring learners and leading to paid internship opportunities in the summer following their first year of completion.

Once recruitment at the college opens, the programme will be open principally to business students to run alongside their College course. Recently a Local Advisory Board (LAB) meeting was held at Yale College, with representatives from M&S Money, ScottishPower, Airbus, Mican, JCB and other local businesses (pictured above) all keen to improve student employability skills and offer them real experience in the workplace. Tim Guy, Director at Yale College said:

“We are delighted so many local employers are talking to us about working with our learners for Career Academies”

The scheme was also backed in a recent article by Chairman of Lloyds Banking Group Sir Winfried Bischoff, published in The Times. He advocates the need for social mobility amongst for young people, and for employers to share responsibility by looking more favourably on work-based and vocational experience rather than solely academic achievement.

For further information about learning opportunities or if you are an employer interested in offering placement opportunities for learners in 2012-13, telephone Yale College on 01978 311794 (extension 2283) to speak to the CAUK Coordinator or visit www.yale-wrexham.ac.uk
