AM Heralds Milestone In Primary Education
Wrexham Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, has described this September’s completion of the rollout of Foundation Phase teaching to all primary school children across Wales as a “key milestone” in primary education.
As children go back to school this September, for the first time all Primary School children in Wales will have experienced the Foundation Phase curriculum based upon practical skills and learning through play.
The initiative has been in classrooms since September 2008, however, this year marks the first time all children aged three to seven years will have experienced the new approach.
The Foundation Phase is designed to give children in Wales the best possible start in life. It is based on learning through play, active involvement and practical activities which enhances their creativity, knowledge, skills and understanding which are invaluable for future learning.
Commenting on the milestone, Lesley Griffiths said:
“It is hugely important we allow our children to develop skills in a practical and enjoyable environment from an early age. Foundation Phase teaching represents a revolution in our approach to primary education.
“I believe Foundation Phase teaching can help provide the young people of tomorrow with a more healthy and enjoyable relationship with education and the learning of new skills.
“As this key milestone passes, the Welsh Government should be proud of its forward thinking approach to Primary education. It is great to know all school kids are now benefiting from this and long may it continue.”
