A Welsh opera company are putting on special performances for babies and toddlers next month

The Welsh National Opera will be bringing BabyO and SensoryO devised by Scottish Opera to Wrexham in September.

The two special operas for children have been specially created for babies and toddlers to introduce them to the world of sound, song and performance.

First is Baby O, set in a magical secret garden with busy bees, splashing fish and quacking ducks. Rachel Drury created the music for the piece after researching what sort of vocal sounds babies respond to best.

The show combines recorded music with live singing and uses sounds and words that babies can understand, helping to stimulate the beginnings of language development. The vocals vary to mirror and enhance the beautiful scenery, props and the movements of the professional singers in the performance.

Sensory O looks at how music can help infants aged between 18-36 months develop their speech. The setting is interactive with singers dressed in pyjamas and the audience seated on soft seats and cushions.

It features a mixture of live and recorded vocal music as well as percussive sounds. SensoryO takes a train ride through the jungle to meet a friendly lion who sleeps under the stars. The 30-minute show uses smells, textures, actions and simple but striking visuals to inspire the imagination and bring the adventure to life.

You can find out where the performances of BabyO and SensoryO will take place below. Tickets for both are priced at £2 combined for a child and accompanying adult and can be bought via the WNO ticket line on 029 2063 5030 or by paying cash at venue box office.
