Wrexham Keeper Ward Signs For Liverpool
Wrexham FC goalkeeper Danny Ward has signed for Liverpool for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £100,000.
The 18 year old who has yet to make his first team debut for Wrexham completed the move today after completing a medical over the weekend.
Media reports have suggested that Wrexham will earn an initial £100,000 for the deal which could climb to above £300,000 with add ons should Ward make the cut at Anfield.
Ward did make one appearance for the dragons in a second string Welsh Cup defeat by Airbus last month, the same day as the senior side won at Brentford in the FA Cup.
He is believed to be highly rated by staff at Wrexham FC’s Centre of Excellence where he was in his final year having joined the club as a 14 year old.
“It’s a great move for Danny,” said Dragons’ boss Andy Morrell. “We would have liked him to stay, but the chance to sign for a top Premiership club was too good for him to turn down.
“He goes with all our best wishes and it would be great to see him playing top flight football in the not too distant future.”
On Twitter Ward spoke of his delight at passing his medical and spoke of his amazement as Liverpool star Steven Gerrard walked into the room just as he completed it. Ward’s name is currently trending on the social networking site as news of his transfer breaks.
