A new Touch Rugby team has been hailed as a success just weeks after being launched by Glyndwr University.

Students and staff at the University have come together to form the Glyndwr University Crusaders – the university’s first touch rugby side.

And the team has a true international feel – attracting both male and female students from Wales, Germany, England and France.

The side recently played their first fixture against established local side Wrexham Bradley Raiders. Despite the team being together matter weeks and the majority of the squad having never played any form of rugby before, the university side fought bravely before losing 12-6 to their more experienced opposition.

Community Rugby League coach Allen Jones, who helps coach the side, said: “The team has only been together for just over a month so I was delighted with their efforts.

“The majority of players are brand new to the sport so Touch Rugby League is a great place to start. The team played brilliantly for their first outing and a lot of things went well. Most importantly, they are enjoying the game and it’s great to see students from all over the world coming along to our sessions.”

The Glyndwr University Rugby League Touch Team train each Wednesday between 2.00pm and 3.00pm at the Sports Centre and both male and female Students and Staff are more than welcome to attend.
