Wrexham’s MP praises “hard work and dedication” of staff at local vaccination clinic

Wrexham’s Member of Parliament has praised the hard work of those involved in the local vaccination rollout.

Last weekend MP, Sarah Atherton, visited the Covid-19 vaccination clinic at Llay British Legion to meet with staff and volunteers to hear about the work they have been doing for the community and to praise them for their highly successful vaccination programme.

During the visit, Ms Atherton toured the facilities at Llay British Legion and met with staff and volunteers who she praised for their hard work and dedication to such an important role.

She also congratulated the team on having reached the milestone of administering 10,000 Covid-19 vaccines, which was reached at the end of May. As of this weekend, the centre has now given over 13,000 vaccinations.

Whilst visiting the vaccine clinic, Ms Atherton also received her second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine having received the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab in April.

Commenting on the visit and the success of the clinic, Dr Peter Collin from Alyn Family Doctors said: “It was great to be able to welcome the local MP, Sarah Atherton, here to the vaccination clinic, to introduce her to our excellent staff and volunteers and to administer her second Covid vaccine.

“At the end of May, we reached a milestone having administered 10,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses here at the Llay British Legion and we have now given over 13,000 doses in total; it has been a long haul, but the support from staff and volunteers has been amazing and we couldn’t have done it without them.

“I would also encourage anyone who has been offered a vaccine but has not received it to come forward to book an appointment and, if you do have an appointment, please make sure you come along!”

Sarah Atherton said: “As I have said before, the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine is the way out of lockdown and restrictions, so I was grateful to be able to thank those that have been successfully running this clinic for all that they have done to support and protect our community.

“Having returned to the frontline last year, I am all too aware of the effects of Covid-19, making the successes of the rollout even more significant.

“I know that the vaccine rollout has not been straight forward in Wrexham and North Wales but, despite this, the team have done a brilliant job of making sure everyone in our community that wants a vaccine has access to one.

“We are not there yet though, so I would encourage everyone that hasn’t had a vaccine to come forward if you are eligible. Please also remember to turn up to your appointments if you have one and follow all the guidance that is still in place.”
