The streets of Wrexham town centre were alive with the sound of the music and entertainment over the weekend – with over 20 choirs performing live and showcasing their talents

The ‘Wrexham Singing Streets Choir Festival’ was the first of its kind to take place in the town, bringing together a host of choirs from the local and surrounding areas.

Throughout the 25 choirs performed at various stages across the town centre, including Hope Street, Eagles Meadow, Wrexham Museum and Chester Street.

After a day of performances the day culminated in a mass singathon, which saw all 25 choirs gather on Queen’s Square to perform together.

The musical event tied in with the Wrexham Street Festival, which has been running on the last Saturday of every month since April.

Launched by the Town Centre Forum and a team of volunteers, the monthly Street Festivals aim to generate more footfall in the town centre and showcase what Wrexham has to offer.

Running alongside the musical entertainment the Wrexham Street Festival provided stalls on Hope Street and Regent Street, selling everything from locally made food produce, homemade jewellery and crafts.

Also taking place in town on Saturday was the Oriel Wrecsam’s ‘Roald Dahl Mischief March’ – a celebration across the town centre to celebrate Roald Dahl’s centenary.

The next Wrexham Street Festival is a Halloween special and will take place on Saturday 29 October.
